ryan essonAppearance milestone for 'golden gloves' Ryan

Goalkeeper Ryan Esson had a double celebration following the win at St Mirren -- for it was his 125th appearance for the club, a milestone he is keen to use as a launchpad for the future.

Esson, who will be 32 in March, was the Supporters' player of the year, the CaleyThistleOnline supporters' Player of the Year, and the players' player of the year last season, and he admits that signing for Caley Jags on July 15, 2008, has turned out to be a great decision.

"I'd been playing in England so it was a bit of a gamble to come to the Highlands, but we've loved it up here", says Ryan. "I'm out of contract in June and very keen to stay at the club if the opportunity arises.

"I didn't realise I had clocked up 125 games but its nice to reach such a landmark -- my next target has to be 150 appearances. The supporters have been very good to me and that's helped me enjoy my time at Inverness. I'd like to repay them by helping the team to continue to climb the table. We badly needed the win at Paisley because we'd been playing well enough in games yet finishing empty handed. Saturday's was a gritty win, with everyone digging deep as a team. We needed to grind out victories and that showed we could.  Hopefully that will give us the confidence to kick on from here."

Aberdonian Ryan made his first team debut for Aberdeen in May 2000 and the Scottish youth and under 21 international make 89 appearances for the Pittodrie side before leaving in 2006 to join Shrewsbury Town. But a broken cheekbone kept him out for three months and cost him his place and he went on loan to Hereford Town before Caley Jags came calling.

He picked up a First Division championship medal and has made himself a firm favourite at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
